Odds and ends...

I have taken a bit a of a break from my Sci-Fi franchise inspired models to paint a few odds and ends recently.

Back when I started this blog I showed off a few re-touched versions of my Necromunda Escher gang, updated from their original slapdash paint jobs. I never actually got around to doing the rest of the gang box, so I'm currently putting that right. Three of the girls are still in progress but I have finished the Heavy.

Unlike the earlier models this isn't an update as she was never actually painted the first time round, a combination of laziness (I have to stick it together???) and because of a miscast that resulted in her missing the front of her right foot.

This time however I did stick her together and broke out the greenstuff for some gap filling and to replace her missing extremity.

Also I recently managed to acquire the last remaining Adeptus Arbite I needed (the 2nd Edition Champion model) and thought I'd slap some paint on him to get the Precinct finished.

I'm really quite happy with how his coat has come out. Will try and get a full group shot of the whole lot at some point.

Till next time...

Final Arbitration...

So I finally tracked down one of the two remaining Adeptus Arbites that I don't have and decided to get it painted up to go with my existing Euphoria Precinct.

And so presenting Arbitrator Rhodes.

He's painted in the same way as all the earlier ones.

And the whole Precinct together.

The only one I need now is the second edition Champion.

Till next time.

Laying down a little more of the Law...

Finished off the Arbite that I was painting in the last post.

So Arbitrator Pawl steps up to reinforce the Euphoria Arbites Precinct.

And the whole Precinct gathered together.

Still working on the Champions of Law, and I'm also trying to squeeze in a little something for Orktober.

Till next time...

Collecting Conumdrums...

So recently I've been contemplating the collecting side of the Oldhammer hobby and its numerous facets, especially as it is the primary direction of my own hobby.

However despite that I've never really attempted to collect the entirety of a particular range as many people attempt. I have mostly worked on finding particular figures that I have always wanted or really liked the look of.

Admittedly I have by chance managed to acquire most of the original Eldar range with just two or three that I am currently missing.

This line of thinking was mostly inspired by a recent purchase which has moved me closer to completing another range. Here is the offending individual WIP.

He means that I have only two figures remaining to complete the first two Adeptus Arbites ranges (even if I had the fiscal means to afford them I'm not overly bothered with the Necromunda Enforcers).

The above acquisition means that I have only two remaining, the bolter armed Arbite from the RT range and the Arbite Champion from the 2nd Edition range.

Of course the chances of finding the Arbite Champion at an price I can stomach are limited but a man can still dream...

Anyway the new recruit should hopefully end up like his buddies sometime soon.

Also on the painting table at the moment are some fantasy minis that will form the start of a "Champions of Law" warband somewhat inspired by the amazing work of Asslessman at Leadplague.

My current plan is to have a series of "champions" each with their own "apprentice/sidekick" who will reference their master in appearance and colour. Have three champions currently and plans for one or two more (my painting speed means they will never match the small army JB has reached).

Till next time.

Round Up 2015

Happy new year to all you Oldhammerer's out there, I hope everyone had a enjoyable festive season.

So as a follow up to my similar post in 2014 I thought I have a look back at what I have achieved in the last year.

This year I've managed to paint 25 models and greatly increased the cast of my Euphoria setting.

Captain Smryk's crew has grown considerably with six additional members including a first mate, a medic, a pilot and some cannon fodder.

First Mate "Ace" Ryker
Chief of Security Sphinx and Helmsman Pyke
Ensign Rizzo, Doc 'Bones' and Crewman Raybone

Inquisitor Tycho and his retinue have made their appearance.

Ankyra Voth, Inquisitor Tycho, and Gerhard Cornwallis
A sneaky assassin

Regis Evangeline Margeritte d'Sarck, Governor of Euphoria and her entourage has also taken to the stage.

Milady d'Wysper, Regis d'Sarck, Tighert Ankhe and Father Toil

The Euphorian Arbites Precinct has been reinforced.

Judge Diens
Arbitrator Locke

The insidious Cult of the Incandescent Astral Wyrm has continue to gain new adherents.

William Dymm, Vardys Jax, the Emissary, Sister Lorritta, Jakob Dymm

And the Eldar have also gained a few reinforcements.

Including a Scout...
...several extra Fire Dragons...
...and a Death Jester.

Additionally I have painted one extra who isn't connected with Euphoria.

Hugh Ponsonby Wilberforce...

So lets have a look back at my three targets from last year and see what I will set myself for the coming year:

1 - Paint at least 17 models. I've definitely managed this one, having painted 8 more models than my target. Onwards and upwards on this one.

2 - Base all my models. Yeah... so this one I've basically failed at, managing to base only one model...

3 - Manage at least one post a month. This one I did quite well at until June when I didn't post at all. Again during August and September I didn't post, these were mostly due to external factors.

So for 2016 I think I will continue on the same lines with my targets, as real life and other hobbies certainly eat into my time with regularity. Therefore my targets will be:

1 - Paint at least 26 models. Again I'm going to try and at least match my previous years efforts painting wise. I plan to attempt some batch painting of groups of similar models in the coming year which should help with this one.

2 - Base all my models. Going to try again on this one, need to get down to a concerted basing session.

3 - Manage at least one post a month. Based on the last year trying anything more is likely to be difficult.

Inspired by Asslessman and Axiom of Magpie and Old Lead's Rogue Quest I also have an idea for getting in some gaming next year too (at least of the solo variety). Not going into to much detail now but it involves the fact that I have a copy of the old Ultramarines game box complete with its space hulk floor plans...

Till next time.

We're gonna need a bigger gun...

Got another mini painted up this week.

The latest recruit for Euphoria's Arbites Precinct has reported for duty and he's brought along something a little more weighty than a shotgun or bolter...

Arbitrator Locke.

And here he is with his buddies.

Working on Inquisitor Tycho next but still working out exactly how I want him to look.

Till next time

Long Arm of the Law or Right Hand of the Lawless?

So two more finished minis to show off today one for each of my most complete warbands, the Euphoria Arbites Precinct and Cap'n Smyrk's Crew.

First up for Arbites we have the Precinct's commander Judge Diens bringing the Imperium's own unique brand of justice to the streets of Euphoria.

Painted to match his comrades.

Then we have the final member of Captain Smyrk's command crew, his first mate 'Ace' Ryker. This just leaves a few more redshirts and then Smyrk's crew will be finished!

Still undecided with how the effect on his power axe came out.
You can just see the hazard stripes on his shoulder guard...

You can see both of them with their fellows on their respective warband pages.

Next on the list is probably Loritta from the Iron Claw Space Pirates range.

Due to her coming from the same range as the Star Raven mini I used for my Emissary and the fact she has a partial face mask I think she will be becoming a cultist of the Incandescent Astral Wyrm.

Til Next time...

2014 Roundup

When I started this blog back in March, inspired by the many other brilliant Oldhammer blogs out there, it was to give me the impetus to actually paint some of the classic models I had started buying on E-bay.

Has it actually achieved that?

Well I painted seventeen models in the last ten months, which is infinitely more than I had painted prior to starting the blog. So I can't say I'm displeased with the progress I've made. Plenty more still to paint, and somehow I seem to keep acquiring more :)

Certainly my painting has improved (not to the standards of many others in the community but good enough for me).

So what are the models I did get painted.

The whole lot.
Smyrk's Crew, Arbites and the Emissary

Necromunda Eschers

Cursed Xenos
And a lone fantasy dwarf... (who managed to avoid appearing in the group shot).

So whilst I'm happy with my progress so far it seems customary to set myself some targets for the coming year. So here goes...

1 - Paint at least 17 models. Knowing my work rate and the distractions of real life and other hobbies I'm not going to set too high a target for this.

2 - Base all my models. Its notable with all the models I've done so far I haven't actually properly  finished any of them... As such a definite target is to actually base them all and do the same for all the new ones I paint.

3 - Manage at least one post a month. Looking at my post history for the blog there are two big gaps in August and later October and November where I didn't post anything at all. So next year I'm going to try and keep a more even flow across the whole year.

Right having got that out of the way it just remains to say have a Happy New Year and see you all in the next annum.

One (or three...) last thing(s)...

So I managed to bash out three last minis for the year this morning which brings my total for the year up to 16, which is more than I actually expected to manage.

The first one is Montgomery "Squatty" McAlliber Captain Smyrk's squat engineer. I imagine that having been declared a heretic by Inquisitor Tycho Smyrk lost all his Adeptus Mechanicus support but Squatty not being AdMech has hung around.

Can't really see it in my rubbish photo but I'm pretty happy with how his shades turned out.

Check it out! More hazard stripes!
Smyrk and his crew aren't going to be very uniform in their colour scheme and so I realised that I needed something to tie them all together and so as I'd already put some on Smyrk I decided to use hazard stripes.

Then there are the two Adeptus Arbites that I've painted up to accompany Psi-Judge Anjersen.

Arbitrator Joeb, front

And back.
And Arbitrator Luke, front

And back.

Finally I've added some pages as galleries for some of the factions I'm painting up, just Captain Smyrk's crew and the Arbites at the moment as they're the only ones I've got several of but will expand them.

I'll probably do a yearly round up post closer to new year but this is it for now.

Til next time.

She Is The Law... (And a Merry Christmas to all)

So Merry Christmas to the blogosphere.

Sorry it's taken so long to get these photos but once I'd recharged my camera my lack of a proper photo setup meant I had to wait until I had a day off work and was actually at home in daylight.

Anyway as an early Christmas present of sorts here's the pics of Psi-Judge Anjersen ;)

I'm quite happy with the way she's turned out so much so I've already started to paint up two of her comrades using the same basic scheme although as they are mini's from two different Arbites ranges there's some variation.

Anjersen is actually quite, shall we say, petite compared to her comrades but that doesn't bother me that much.

Joining the Arbites in the painting queue is the next member of Cap'n Smyrk's crew his faithful Squat engineer Montgomery "Squatty" McAlliber.

Hope to have these three done by the end of the year, as festivities and visits to relatives allow.

So I hope you all have a good festive season and til next time...
